1. I had before a Panasonic Lumix TZ5 that I lost in a concert, and this time I looked for an alternative from other brands. I had Canon cameras before, liked them, but at that time they didn't have a point-and-shoot digital camera with more than 4x optical zoom.
Canon SX120IS offers 10x zoom and a lot of resources that my previous camera didn't (i.e., manual focus). One of the main improves is movie making: TZ5 videos had poor audio quality, even worse than my cellphone's.
The only con this camera have so far for me: batteries. I prefer cameras that don't use AA batteries, but canon cameras like this (the Powershot SD series) don't have so much optical zoom
2. We looked at a bunch of other cameras in this class before we settled on this one. Good, crisp pictures, adjusts to lighting well, and it has the facial recognition technology, which is a huge bonus, and is also very entertaining. Fast shutter speed, long battery life, great macro photos make this an ideal camera for business shots too. Perfect for someone looking for DSLR picture quality with point-and-shoot ease.
